Batu Bolong, Canggu

Your surf lesson at Batu Bolong.

We teach every lesson at Batu Bolong beach, right by Old Man’s. Its long, slow-rolling wave gives you time to pop up, which is why it’s one of the best places in Bali to learn.

Each lesson is two hours. We start on the sand with safety and pop-ups, then head into the water together and pick the waves that suit your level. Board, rashguard, zinc and drinking water are included.

Your coaches are Herry and Frepy, who grew up surfing on Nias Island. Both are lifeguard qualified and certified surf coaches. Book on WhatsApp and we’ll send you the meeting spot and the best time for the tide.

How we coach

Start where you are.

We focus on progression, understanding where you are right now to help you reach the next level.

Beginner

Basics first, then your next step.

  1. Learn the basics

We start with the fundamentals so you feel safe and confident in the water.

  2. Find where you are

We see how you’re riding so we know exactly what to work on.

  3. Reach the next stage

Together we pick the next step and coach you towards it.

Intermediate

Your goals, your lesson.

  1. Where do you want to improve?

You tell us what you want to work on.

  2. Where are you now?

We watch you surf and understand your level, right now.

  3. We coach you there

Reading the lineup, positioning and riding down the line.

Good to know

Questions?

The quick answers are here. For anything else, message us — we usually reply fast.

Ask us anything
I’ve never surfed before. Is that okay?

Absolutely — most of our students are complete beginners. We start on the sand with the basics and safety, then get you into small, friendly waves at Batu Bolong, Canggu’s best beginner beach. Lots of people stand up in their very first lesson.

How much does a surf lesson cost in Canggu?

With us, a 2-hour lesson at Batu Bolong costs IDR 500K for a private lesson, IDR 400K per person for two or three people, and IDR 350K per person for groups of four or more. Board, rashguard, zinc and drinking water are always included, and lesson packs bring the price down if you’re staying a while.

Is Canggu good for beginner surfers?

Yes. Batu Bolong, where we teach, has a long, slow-rolling wave that gives you time to pop up, which makes it one of the most popular places in Bali to learn. We choose the tide and the part of the beach that suits your level.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

It helps, but it isn’t essential for private lessons. We provide a life jacket for anyone who isn’t confident in the water, and we stay right beside you the whole time. Semi-private and group lessons aren’t recommended for non-swimmers.

Can kids join?

Yes. Children under 7 who are beginners surf tandem with the coach in a private lesson. Semi-private and group lessons are best for ages 10 and up.

What’s included and what should I bring?

We bring the surfboard, rashguard, zinc sunscreen and drinking water. You bring swimwear, a towel and a good attitude. Photos and video of your session are available to buy.

Where do we meet?

On Batu Bolong beach in Canggu, right by Old Man’s (Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.94). We’ll send you the exact meeting spot and the best time for the tide on WhatsApp when you book.

What if the waves or weather aren’t right?

Surf conditions depend on the ocean, and safety always comes first. If conditions aren’t safe for your level, we’ll move your lesson to another time.

How do I pay?

Full payment before the lesson, in cash or by bank transfer. Just message us on WhatsApp to book and we’ll send the details.

Do packages expire?

No. Lesson packs don’t expire, so you can use them whenever suits you, on this trip or the next one.
